River Hongjie He (b.1998, Chongqing, China) is mainly engaged in photography and textile creation, drawing inspiration from nature, philosophy, multiculturalism, symbols, and personal experience. In an era oversaturated with digital imagery, she finds herself retreating to the essence of tradition and craft—seeking resonance in the tactile, the organic, and the ancestral. The boundless flow of information does not liberate but instead urges her to return to origins, to nature, and to the animistic belief that all things possess a soul.
A still image is never truly still; it holds hidden emotions, unspoken messages, and layered narratives that extend beyond the visual. While imagery dominates perception, she is drawn to its unspoken dimensions—touch, texture, and materiality—where symbols in nature reveal themselves through form. A thread is never just a thread; a knot, never just a knot. Every woven fiber carries meaning, echoing the rhythm of landscapes, the breath of wind, the weight of silence.
Each textile piece becomes a verse, a fragment of an untold poem—hinting at memories, rituals, and unseen forces. Photography captures the fleeting, while textiles anchor the ephemeral, weaving together the intangible stories that exist between nature and human experience. In her practice, the raw and the spiritual intertwine, translating the silent language of the natural world into something to be seen, touched, and felt.
